   WHO AM I

I am a retired marketing manager from a computing and communications background, part time landlord, photographer, amateur neuroscientist and koi keeper

I have kept koi since 1992, initially in an 800 gallon pond with a homemade filter comprising a bath tub, brushes, flocor, plants and various other elements.

That same pond has now grown to 4,250 gallons (approx 24K litres) and filtration now includes a Nexus 200 Easy, a Cetus sieve, a very large bakki shower with 14 boxes of BHM and various other bits and pieces.

This version of the pond is now approaching 9 years old (pictured back in 2007) and in need of a refurb - and that is one of the drivers for this site.

I want:

- Lower maintenance

- Clearer water (and better condition of course)

- Lower running costs (I currently burn 1.5Kwh of electricity 24x7)

This site will hopefully document some of the decisions, compromises and trade offs along with progress towards this goal.

All equipment I review or comment upon is my own, which I will have bought and  paid for - I do not accept freebies and do not promote products for any reason unless I have bought them and found them to meet my needs.  All views are my own and my aim here is to encourage good design whilst also helping people realise that they can improve the products they buy and that they should strive to do so.
